Active Armed Offender and IED Response Training Program
This course has been specifically designed for organisations looking to prepare their workforce for the threat of an active armed offender or IED incident. Developed in line with Australia’s national security guidelines and the Escape–Hide–Tell framework, the program equips staff at all levels with the knowledge and confidence to respond decisively in a critical event.
Participants will learn to recognise warning signs, apply proven survival strategies, coordinate with emergency services, and support organisational lockdown and evacuation procedures. The course also covers prevention and preparedness, helping organisations build a strong security culture and meet their duty of care obligations.
Available as an online course or delivered face-to-face at your premises, this program is suitable for corporate offices, retail environments, venues, places of worship, transport hubs, and any organisation responsible for the safety of staff and visitors in crowded places.

Components in this Module
Module 1: Introduction to Active Armed Offender (AAO) Threats
- Understand the nature and characteristics of AAO incidents and what Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) are.
Module 2: Characteristics of AAO Incidents
- Understand common attack patterns, weapons used and critical individual reactions to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
Module 3: Escape, Hide, Tell Protocol
- Understand the 'Escape, Hide, Tell' protocol, situational awareness and the vital role of 'Upstanders' in preventing targeted violence.
Module 4: Communication with Police and Response
- Understand communication with police, supporting emergency services and supporting each other during the immediate response period (first hours to days).
Module 5: Prevention and Preparedness
- Security is a shared responsibility. In this module you will learn how to recognise warning signs, protect sensitive information and respond to suspicious items.
Module 6: Bomb Threats, Drills & Evacuation

Pre-requisite?
No previous knowledge or experience is required.
How long?
The online courses are made up of a number of learning modules. Each module has an estimated time to complete them (click on the ‘i’ next to the module to get the time).
The time to complete a module can vary based on your existing knowledge of the material.
No need to finish the course in one session. You can log in and out as many times as you like, until the course end date. The course end date is shown when entering the training. The system remembers what you have completed and you can continue on from where you left off.
How does it work?
Once we receive confirmation of your payment (which could take up to 24 hours), you will receive an email with your login details. Go to the login page which will be emailed to you. Enter your details then click on the name of the course when you are ready to start.

How will I be assessed?
Each module is broken into sections with checkpoints, interactive challenges and quiz questions throughout. You are required to go through each section and answer every question correctly to be deemed competent. If you answer any questions incorrectly, you will be given feedback on which question you answered incorrectly. You can then correct your response and continue.
Will I receive a certificate?
These are non accredited corporate-based short courses and if successful you will receive a Certificate of Completion.
